What Is the Hart Standard?
The Hart Standard is the set of criteria every business must meet before being listed in our directory. It exists to protect homeowners and to ensure that every trade we recommend is one we'd be happy to recommend to our own families.
Verified Local Business
The business must operate within Hart District or the immediately surrounding area. We don't list national chains or businesses based far from the area they claim to serve.
Appropriate Insurance
All listed businesses must hold valid public liability insurance appropriate to their trade. We verify this as part of the application process.
Relevant Qualifications
Where a trade requires formal qualifications or registration (Gas Safe, NICEIC, etc.), we check these are current and valid.
Positive Track Record
We look at reviews, references and work history. We're looking for consistent quality and reliability — not perfection, but professionalism.
No Paid Rankings
Businesses cannot pay to appear higher in the directory. Listings are ordered fairly and cannot be influenced by payment.
Limited Category Spaces
We list a maximum of three businesses per trade category. This keeps the directory focused and ensures every listing gets meaningful visibility.
Why This Matters
Most online directories list anyone who pays. We take a different approach. The Hart Standard means that when you find a trade through us, you can be confident they've been reviewed — not just registered.
